It’s always interesting when the client comes in with a concept for the art. It’s a bit of a moment to make sure I can come through with what they are envisioning. Concept to creation can be a little nerve-wracking, because you want to do your best for them. For this piece, Jim at PrintShop had mentioned comic books, noir, Pulp Fiction, nefarious activities. Check, check, check, and a big ol’ check.
I took the view from right out front of Printshop Beer Co., recreated it, since it already looked like some shady shit could go down right out front. Then placed Jules’ Chevy Nova (even down to spot-checking the paint color) to be the vehicle in which the nefarious hops were stored. The added glow was all Jim’s idea, and I pulled from Alex Cox’s classic Repo Man. All in all, the thick strokes, the dark overcast of the background, the Kirby era font, I’m happy with how it turned out, and am thankful for Jim’s great idea for the art.
